Copeland Irish Whistle #2266


This whistle is handmade by
Michael Copeland of Copeland Whistles.  Unfortunately, Michael
is no longer making his amazing whistles, and his online shop has been
closed since the end of 2006.  It’s getting harder to find these
beautifully-crafted instruments, although you can occasionally find
them in stores that sell traded, higher-end whistles.




Michael produced his whistles
in nickel silver and brass.  This whistle is made from Nickel silver,
also known as German silver, an alloy of 18% nickel with brass; it is
essentially a white brass that has a silver look.  Generally, pure
brass whistles have a slightly warmer, softer tone and tarnish more
easily than nickel.  Nickel silver whistles have a brighter, louder
tone and are slower to tarnish.  A number of amateur enthusiasts
and professionals consider Copeland whistles the best of the best.




D is the “standard” key
for much of the Irish repertoire.  It’s the high-pitched, sweet
whistle voice you can hear on a majority of recordings.




This whistle is in great condition;
it has been maintained over the course of its life with me, but it has
travelled many places and has the appearance of being loved
and well-used.  The fipple is in excellent condition, neither chewed nor cracked. The voice carries well in sessions and is slightly
