History of the Malerne Oboe
Robert Malerne, prior to his retirement in 1976, made fine quality professional oboes which were in such high demand that they were re-branded and sold under the following names: Benwal, Bhosys, Blessing, Chiasserini, Cartier, Delecroix, ''Paris'', M. Peirre, Paul Gerard, and Ponte. Prior to 1976, Laubin English horns were made by Malerne and finished by Paul Laubin. Malerne's shop, with it's superlative equipment and highly respected administration was bought in 1976 by the firm of Strasser, Marigaux, and Lemaire.
Condition of This Oboe
This oboe, having been freshly restored is in spectacular condition. It's restoration by Crispin's Creations and Accessories included the following:
Keys polished, cleaned and oiled with NYE Clock Oil, a state-of-the art synthetic oil. All key corks replaced with new.
Wood cleaned, polished and given 7 treatments with Naylor's Bore Oil, the finest bore oil on the planet. A couple of small scratches were repaired.
Octave vents cleaned and treated with Teflon grease to repel water condensation.
Loose posts tightened and secured.
New tenon corks.
Two small (1/2'' long), superficial cracks repaired. The first is at the top of the bottom (longest) joint, over the tenon socket. The second is in a similar position on the bell. Neither crack extended into the bore or into
