G Penzel PROFESSIONAL Clarinet Ebony 1920s FRENCH
This woodwind is no longer for sale (sold on 2009-01-19)
Price : US $99.99
You are bidding on a G. Penzel Bb Clarinet. The model is the Professional. This came from the estate of a family member. I do not play the clarinet, so I tried to do some research on line. If you look at photo #2 you will see that this clarinet was Made in France. Apparently sometime in the late 1920s the Penzel and Mueller Company started producing clarinets in Long Island City, New York. Before that, the instruments were produced in France. This is apparently one of those 1920s instruments. French-made clarinets are considered to be of higher quality than the Penzel-Mueller clarinets made in the U.S. The serial number is U-292B (shown clearly in photo #5.)
The clarinet is made of ebony wood and has no cracks. It is in excellent condition other than a small finish blemish about the size of a dime shown in photo #10. The metal parts appear to be nickel-plated, and have a green cast in places. After a good cleaning by a reputable repair shop, this clarinet should provide the player with some great tone and playability!
This is a genuine wooden French clarinet with an opening bid less than a cheap plastic Asian import!
Note to non-U.S. buyers: Customs certificate will be made out at actual sale price; no exceptions.
