Marsyas recorders were the result of a joint venture between the Kung recorder workshop and Heinz Ammann, who had been the head of recorder design at H.C. Fehr. I discovered these recorders two years ago on the Antique Sound Workshop Website and bought a Marsyas alto in Olivewood. Because I knew these recorders to be in short supply (ASW had decided not to restock when Ammann left the project), I bought a second alto in Grenadilla wood. I paid over $1,000.00 for the one I am selling and it has had fairly light use, whereas the Olivewood model, which I am keeping, I use extensively in consort work. These are oustanding recorders. I have played a number of good altos and the Marsyas are among the best. In my opinion, they are far superior to the popular Moeck Rottenburgh models. The recorder uses Baroque fingerings and is pitched at 440. It will be oiled before shipping to the winning buyer. Because it has not been played very much recently, it would be a good idea for the new owner to regard it as new and break it in accordingly. It comes in the Marysas soft case, as pictured.
